Engagement Insights is a tool designed to help instructors monitor student engagement so it's easier  to determine which students might need a little extra attention to keep them on track in the discussions.  Our goal is to let instructors spend more of their time teaching and less trying to monitor the classroom for students who may be at a risk of possible drop out.

It uses modern AI data science to examine the engagement of each student relative to their peers in the discussions and then groups students by risk levels with easy to read concerns that the instructor can use to determine if they'd like to reach out to the student.  It shows how long the students have been at risk as well as areas the student is improving so instructors have a complete picture of where the student is at today.

Concerns:  We track how students are doing based on past topics compared to their peers and how they are doing in the current topic.

Student is not posting, commenting or replying as early

  • Student is making  posts and comments later than their peers on the topic.  When the student starts posting or commenting earlier or the same as their peers this concern will be marked as improved.

Late to complete the last requirement

  • Student has not been completing the last milestones (posts, comments, replies or reactions) on time.  When the student begins to complete the milestone on or before the due date or earlier than their peers (if there are no due dates enabled) then this concern will be marked as improved.

Makes fewer posts in topics

  • Student has made fewer posts in the topic relative to their peers.  When the student begins to make a similar amount of posts as their peers in the next topics then this concern will be marked as improved.

Makes fewer comments in topics

  • Student has made fewer posts in the topic relative to their peers.  When the student begins to make a similar amount of posts as their peers in the next topics then this concern will be marked as improved.

Reads fewer posts, comments or replies

  • Student read fewer posts and comments than their peers in topics.  When the student begins to read similar to  their peers this concern will be marked as improved.

Makes fewer reactions

  • Student has made fewer reactions in the topic relative to their peers.  When the student begins to make a similar amount of reactions as their peers in the next topics then this concern will be marked as improved.

Spends less time in Harmonize

  • Student is spending less time in Harmonize compared to their peers.   When the student starts spending a similar amount of time relative to their peers this concern will be marked as improved.

Comments to posts or replies are less complex

  • This calculation is based on the number of words per sentence and number of syllables per word.
  •  When the student's written work improves this will be marked improved.

Comments to posts or replies have fewer words

  • Student’s comments in topics are shorter than their peers.   When the student comments are similar in length relative to their peers this will marked as improved.

Posts have fewer words

  • Student’s posts in  topics are shorter than their peers.  When the student has larger posts relative to their peers this will be marked as improved.

Milestones requirements are not being completed

  • If the topic has milestones set up then this concern will be relevant.  Student is not completing their milestones (post, comments, replies or reactions).  When the student begins to complete their milestones, then this concern will be marked as improved.

Student has not been re-engaging in a number of topics

  • Student did not come back to the discussion in the most recent topic after their first activity.  When the student begins to return to the discussion topic after their first activity then the concern will be marked as improved.

Student has not participated in a number of topics

  • Student did not make any posts, comments, replies or reactions in past topics.  When the student begins to create a post, comment, reply or reaction in the topic the concern will be marked as improved.

Is not posting, commenting or replying to other students, less connected

  • Student is not interacting as much as their peers.  When the students is more connected relative to their peers, this concern will marked as improved.
