Overview
Harmonize Chat now supports browser notifications so you can be alerted about new messages even if you're working in other browser tabs or other apps on your device. Clicking on a notification will take you directly to the chat conversation, either in the chat window you already have open in your browser or opening a new chat window for you.
Please note that at this time, Harmonize Chat notifications only work in the following browsers:
- Desktop Browsers
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Mobile Browsers
- Google Chrome (Android Only)
Enabling Browser Notifications
User Profile
- From any Harmonize Discussion, click on your profile picture in the top right corner
- In the profile popup that appears, click on your user name
- Select the Chat Settings tab and click on the Turn On Chat Notifications button.
- If a new window appears, click on the Turn on Push Notifications button.
- In the browser confirmation popup that appears, click Allow.
Harmonize Chat Window
- Open Harmonize Chat by either
- Clicking on a user's profile and clicking Chat
- Clicking on the chat icon in the top of a Harmonize Discussion and clicking New Chat.
- For Canvas users, in some courses, there will be a link in course navigation labeled Harmonize Chat.
- Clicking on a user's profile and clicking Chat
- In the Harmonize Chat window, look for a yellow message box in the top left of the page and click on the link labeled Turn on push notifications.
- If a new window that appears, click the button labeled Turn on Push Notifications.
- In the browser confirmation popup that appears, click Allow.
You'll now receive Harmonize Chat notifications when you are not actively in a chat. Clicking on these notifications will take you back to chat and directly into the conversation the notification came from.
Turning Chat Notifications Off
If you need to turn off chat notifications, you can do so one of two ways:
- User Profile
- In any Harmonize Discussion, click on your profile icon in the top right corner.
- In the pop up that appears, click on your name.
- In your profile, select the Chat Settings tab and click the Turn Off Chat Notifications button.
- Chat Menu
- In the Harmonize Chat window, click the 3 dot menu icon in the top left.
- Select Turn Off Chat Notifications.
The same steps above can also be used to turn Harmonize Chat notifications back on.
If you only want to temporarily silence notifications, you can do so by enabling Do Not Disturb or Focus Assist mode on your device.
Removing Block on Notifications
If you happened to block Harmonize Chat browser notifications and would like to enable them, here's how to do so in each browser.
Google Chrome
- Go to the Settings page.
- Go to Privacy and security.
- Go to Notifications in the Permissions section.
- In the Block section, locate the site the ends with 42lines.net.
- Select the menu for that row and select remove.
Mozilla Firefox
- Go to the Preferences page.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Permissions section, find Notifications and select Settings...
- Find the website ending in 42lines.net and change the Block option to Allow.
Microsoft Edge
- Go to the Preferences page.
- Select Cookies and Site Permissions in the settings list.
- Select Notifications under the Site Permissions section.
- Find the site ending in 42lines.net in the Block section and select Remove.
